Tutoring Services
While supporting the learning that takes place in other educational settings, one-to-one tutoring services also provide a unique opportunity for a student to experience lessons that are entirely dedicated to his or her unique academic level and learning style.
Parents are provided with session-by-session summaries, and are free to sit in on tutoring at any time.

Reading and Spelling
The Orton Gillingham Method is popular with students since it holds their interest even when extensive practice is needed. This method uses visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile senses to help develop reading and spelling skills. First, students master basic concepts through systematic instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, syllable types, and sight words. Reading fluency is modeled and directly taught as necessary. At a more advanced level, study of the Latin and Greek roots of English helps to further increase reading speed, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Reading instruction that is based on the mouth positions used to say different letter sounds is also available.
Written Expression
Two types of tutoring are available. Some students need help with school writing assignments. For students who have more significant writing problems, a structured program is provided that can help with sentence structure, grammar, and the organization of paragraphs and essays. Instruction in handwriting is also available as necessary.
Comprehension
This type of tutoring works well for students who have difficulty connecting words with meaning or understanding relationships between ideas. Mental imagery can help students "picture" what words mean, increase vocabulary, and develop higher-order thinking skills. Exercises can also help students learn to find information within text, determine cause and effect relationships, identify main ideas, make inferences and predictions, develop vocabulary, and follow multi-step directions.
Mathematics
If a student needs help keeping up with assignments, homework help can be provided. Assistance can also be provided with learning key mathematical concepts, facts, and operations.

Informal Evaluations
Informal evaluations are administered as an integral part of tutoring services. They assist in determining the specific skills that a student already knows, and help set an appropriate starting point for tutoring. They can also provide an objective way to measure student progress.
